Meet Stella, our Pismo Beach Vet “Pet of the Month.”
Stella is an 11 year Miniature Schnauzer, but you wouldn’t be able to tell because she acts like a puppy!
Stella has been a long time patient at Pismo Beach Vet, but over the last two years we have gotten to know her really well (probably better than her owners would have liked)! In addition to two surgeries to remove bladder stones, recurrent urinary tract infections and bouts of pancreatitis, she has recently been diagnosed as a diabetic. Stella is now on twice a day insulin and doing great!
Although taking care of Stella can be an intensive time commitment, Stella’s mom wanted everyone to know that after recovering from each milestone (removing the stones; getting her diabetes under control; and most recently, having cataract surgery), Stella always feels better afterwards, confirming that they made the right decisions in her care.
We wanted you all to meet Stella because she is an inspiration. She is a great example of how your pet’s longevity and quality of life can be greatly improved by being proactive and practicing preventative medicine. Stella’s owners are very in tune with her and are quick to notice when anything is out of the ordinary. By addressing problems quickly after they arise, we are able to prevent them from escalating into the unmanageable and thus help Stella feel better as quickly as possible (and also save her life in some instances).
